10 reasons i will not join facebook

10. i’d rather network socially than join a social network

9. i think sending out facebook only invitations to birthdays etc is in poor taste and comes across as very rude

8. i don’t care what Kai is doing right now.

7. i’m still in touch with all the people from high school i care to be in touch with.

5. i read somewhere it’s cooler to NOT be on facebook

4. i don’t need to be reminded that somehow via the internet i’m still connected to people i don’t care to be connected to anymore.

3. if i know everything that you’re doing/feeling/saying/reading/watching/thinking every half hour, i either won’t have anything to talk to you about in person or won’t care to talk to you about anything in person. either way there’s really no reason for me to maintain the friendship.

2. i actually like asking people “how are you?”, “how was your day?” and “what’s new?” without having already read the answer somewhere.

1. let’s be honest, it’s basically a blog for lazy people. and something newer will come along and like lemmings over a cliff, everyone will move on in due time. just ask the people over there at friendster and myspace. and the more people tell me i should do something, the more likely i wouldn’t be their friend on facebook.

I’ve always been a bit wary of these social networking sites. But I hear so many people talking up Facebook these days, I might give it a try. An easy user-interface is always a good thing. Please tell me it’s not as cluttered as MySpace pages can get!

You know, a friend of mine sent an invite to join facebook – I have held off, but I have heard so much about it I think I will join. I have a “myspace” because I like to keep an eye on my children’s messages/friends/goings-on – sounds like facebook is the “myspace” for adults.

Ernie, I don’t know whether Facebook (FB) is the best networking site for musicians. At the end of the day, it really depends on what you’re trying to do. For example: Do you just want to hang out with other musicians? Do you want to go where there are millions of people and make your presence felt/seen online? Could you work out some arrangements with FB apps such as iLike to feature your music among FB users?

facebook has definitely taken the world by storm (my mom recently asked me if i have an account). but, as a musician with 8 different myspace accounts, i’m wondering if it is the best networking site for music? after all, i recall that when i first heard about myspace it was about the music-networking angle….
oh well, i guess i’m going to have to check it out.

Tom, you are right about social media sites and how we should be social and not advertise directly.

Many people simply forget this: Very often what works on a face-to-face also works online. Whose words would you trust? Someone who tells you at first encounter, “Buy!” or someone who takes time to listen to you, respond meaningfully, and so on?

For internet marketers, Facebook and Myspace are excellent places to get traffic to their sites. Unfortunately, people use them wrong and get banned.

They don´t understand that Facebook is a social media site, you should be social, join groups and discussions and share information not advertise directly.
