Texan Hacker Trying To Crack My Account?

20 Jun 2007 (Wed)

SOMEONE IN TEXAS, DALLAS has been trying to hack my K2 account since 7am this morning (and s/he is still trying), according to messages from the K2 Community Forums:

K2 email messages

A quick check on the IP address (70.86.138.114) suggests that this hacker is located in Texas, Dallas (USA) — more specifically, along McKinney Ave:

Can someone catch this guy/gal and tell him/her to buzz off?

Same is happennig to me on my xtremeforums account. Same IP and all. I am not the only one, serch in google that IP and find out

  2. Alex says:

Same thing is happening to me. Same IP, Same person.

I’m in Australia. I did an arin whois on the IP and it seems they’re using ThePlanet’s services.

I’ve called the ISP the hack is coming from and lodged an abuse report at:

    abuse@theplanet.com

I suggest everyone do the same thing. This is most likely a script that is gathering user names and passwords for potential identity fraud.

  3. Antonina says:

This person tried to hack my gallery. When I googled IP i see he aimed mainly on vbulletin resources

  4. Ann Core says:

I got the same thing for Sapphire forums 2x today. I am from Switzerland. Looks like some sort of e-mail scam. I wouldn’t click on the link if I were you. I tried to reply via e-mail and I got a failed delivery message.

  5. 4Y says:

Same with me on DCEmu Forums. I`m from Russia.

  6. Hack Victim says:

Same here. Hacking is happening at Conceptart.org forums.

  7. Stuart says:

Trying to hack my K2 account too…

  8. pregnant says:

i have experienced the same thing. How annoying is this.

  9. J.K. says:

All, thanks for your feedback. A little curious: You all come from various parts of the world. All but one responded within 12 hours of my posting, at the rate of around two every two hours. There’re over 140 search results for this IP address. How did you manage to find my post on this? Do you also give feedback to many others who have posted such a complaint on this particular hacker?

By the way, interestingly, this Texan hacker has stopped trying to hack my K2 account shortly after I published this post. And somehow, four out of eight of you (50 percent) have managed to submit your comments on the 53rd minute — 100fuegos at 4:53 pm, Antonina at 7:53 pm, Hack Victim at 11:53 pm, Stuart at 12:53 am. Truly curious.

  10. 100fuegos says:

lol, yesterday when I realized what was going on I googled that IP and the first result was… guess what, yes this webpage.

P.S. was going to wait till x:53 but have to go to work hehehehehe

  11. J.K. says:

:-) 100fuegos, yes, there were only 4 (or 5) search results when you gave your comment. And two out of the 4 were related to this post. Now, there are over 140 search results, all dated 19 or 20 June 2007. 19 June in the USA, by the way, is 20 June in Singapore.

Afternote 22 June 2007: Also, by the way, I had the impression that Google indexes new pages on the Internet only after a few days (scroll to near the bottom of page 3 in this June 3, 2007 article on New York Times). This time, however, the indexing is done within a few hours. Lightning speed! Is this due to QDF (“query deserves freshness”) flagging? Or is there a Googler behind this? :-p

  12. Bob says:

How did you get that on Google Maps ?

  13. J.K. says:

I used ip2location.com to get the latitude and longitude for the IP. Entered them into Google Maps and got that. :-)

  14. antonina says:

    ggg
    really curious, this time..

  15. kevin says:

The thing is could they possibly hack anything more worthless, your k2 forums account? That is so low end it is great.

  16. J.K. says:

Is my K2 account worthless? You might want to think again. ;-)

  17. Alex says:

A large percentage of people use the same password everywhere. Forums, Email Accounts, Internet Banking services, etc.

If a hacker can harvest a large number of forum password / login combinations they can then see if these passwords apply to any other services. From a very large number of failed attempts there is a good chance they will be able to steal their way into a few bank accounts, where they are free to wire money to any account in the world.

I use different passwords for all my accounts so I’m not too worried, but if you don’t then maybe it’s time to change passwords just in case.

  18. J.K. says:

Tks, Alex. No, I don’t use the same password everywhere. Would be truly dumb to do so.

  19. Patrick says:

That is crazy. I really hate these guys. Instead of taking the time to build something to help themselves, they want to destroy!
