No Blogger blog in Technorati Top 100?
5 Jun 2007 (Tue)ONE MYTH STARTED BY A “GURU” during the WIMS 2007 seminar was: Google does not index the blogs on Google Blogger! To prove this point, the speaker said he had scanned through the Top 100 blogs on Technorati and found that not a single one came from Blogger.
This is definitely NOT true. First, blogs on Google Blogger have addresses that end with blogspot.com and NOT blogger.com. Second, blogs on Google Blogger might not even have addresses that end with blogspot.com if the owner chooses to point another domain on that Blogger blog. For example, Robert Scoble pointed the Scobleizer.com domain at his Scobleizer.WordPress.com blog and his blog is listed as Scobleizer.com in Technorati (Authority: 6,232, Rank: 70) with no trace of blog host WordPress.com at all.
Here are some counter-proof: Some of the Top 100 Technorati blogs that I know for a fact are on Google Blogger are:
- PostSecret (Authority: 11,787, Rank: 9)
- Official Google Blog (Authority: 8,653, Rank: 13)
- XiaXue (Authority: 3,841, Rank: 85)
- Insight#4: Of Alexa, Dmoz & Technorati
- Asia Social Media projects – 2 months later
- Top Blogs in China, Malaysia & Philippines
- Stop Linking to Me, D-Listers
- Claiming My Blog on Technorati
- Internet Marketing: Successes or Scams?
- My Chinese Blog on Baidu «百度» ;-)

And people actually paid a few hundreds bucks to listen to this?

There are three types of tickets: VIP, Gold and ordinary. VIP tickets apparently cost a few thousand dollars. Each ticket comes with a “passport” that allows a participant to attend another WIMS event for free within 12 months.
Towards the end of the show, I learnt that some (or many?) “VIPs” came on free tickets.

It’s encouraging to know some blogger.com bloggers have made it that high in the ranks. I’ve been considering switching to my own domain with WordPress. Just don’t have the time or energy right now to tackle it.

I have learned a lot by setting up my own blog. I am still continuing to learn each day. For a techie like me, it helps to learn a bit each day. I’m still in the process of learning to market and to keep people coming to my blog.
It is slowly building up, but having your own domain facilitates customization and experimenting with schemes (themes, marketing ploys, linking). I still feel some of the rankings are just brownie points. There might be a lot of people who visit and read the blog, but do not leave any trace on Technorati.
