LinkedIn… After 3 Days
20 Feb 2007 (Tue)LINKEDIN CAN BE ADDICTIVE! It’s truly tempting to go on and on… :-p
Although I’ve been a LinkedIn member since August 2006, I’ve not published my LinkedIn profile to the Web NOR tried to connect with anyone there. That is, until Lunar New Year’s eve three days ago. Now that I’m running a business, professional networking has become important. Furthermore, my curiosity was piqued (again) upon reading Hinchliffe’s “Best of Web 2.0 in 2006″ article, where LinkedIn was highlighted for the “Professional Social Network” category. So, on Feb 17, I really tried connecting to people whom I know via LinkedIn.
After 3 Days of “connecting”, this is what I get on LinkedIn:

- Roundup#2: Best of Web 2.0 in 2006
- Insight#2: Antidote for Babel Babble?
- Asia Social Media projects - 2 months later
- What’s In A Name?
- 6 Essential Things to Know About Google’s OpenSocial
- What Did ClappingTrees Say at Nexus 2007?
- Alexa Ranks Ping.sg Above Tomorrow.sg!

Hi, Beth. Pleased to “meet” you virtually.
What an interesting way to meet via social media! (A teaching point for one of my courses.)
I found your tagging photo amongst Cogdogblog’s Favorites in Flickr and added it as a Fave. Later, I’m not sure how, you found me and added me as a contact on Flickr. I got curious. Started looking at your profile, found your very interesting blog and added a comment.
I found LinkedIn (again) while checking out some Singapore entrepreneur websites — followed some links there, found Nexus 2007 and many of the organizers have FaceBook and LinkedIn links. So, I thought I’d give them a second look.
Ok, regarding LinkedIn, I’m not so addicted to it now. Still, I find it useful as a relatively official and authenticated way of presenting one’s professional credentials and recommendations. It also has a very interesting Answer feature where one can ask or simply read FAQs on business-related topics close to one’s heart.
It also gives feedback on “the state of completion” of one’s network and recent changes in one’s network. For example, after half a month of “connecting”, this is what I get on LinkedIn:

A pity though that many (perhaps most) of my contacts are not into LinkedIn (or Facebook).

Oh yes, regarding BlogHer… actually, I’m not sure. I’m just a BlogHer too.
If I reside in the States, the choice would be much easier.

Are there any other social networking sites similar to LinkedIn that you might share? I am just getting the hang of it, it’s a bit new for me to work with social netwroking sites.
